Egg Donation Process
Egg Donation: A Guided Journey to Parenthood
The path to becoming an egg donor is both impactful and rewarding, as it helps others fulfill their dreams of parenthood. While the exact duration of the egg donor process can vary, we provide you with a step-by-step guide to help you understand the timeline and stages involved.
Application:
- Begin by filling out the donor application form.
- Provide a comprehensive report of your biological family’s medical and mental health history.
- Submit any necessary documents and childhood photos.
- An ASC egg donation coordinator will review your application, address your inquiries, and explain the next steps. Upon approval, your profile becomes eligible for matching.
Matching:
- Your profile becomes accessible to intended parents.
- If chosen for a match, an egg donation coordinator will connect you with details about the intended parents, their expectations, and clinic location.
- After mutual agreement, your designated coordinator will guide you further.
Screenings & Contracts:
- Psychological evaluation.
- Complete medical assessment at the intended parents’ fertility clinic.
- Collaborate with your attorney to negotiate the egg donor contract, ensuring your rights.
Medications & Egg Retrieval:
- Follow the IVF clinic’s cycle schedule.
- Commence medication regimen.
- Attend local monitoring appointments.
- Travel to the IVF clinic for egg retrieval.
- Receive compensation upon successful retrieval.
Upon obtaining medical and legal clearance, the IVF clinic will provide a schedule for egg retrieval and instructions for medications. Regular appointments monitor the growth of follicles during the 10-15 day hormone injection cycle. The IVF procedure, led by a doctor, collects eggs for fertilization. Your compensation is disbursed after the retrieval process.
Embark on this meaningful journey and be part of creating new families. Your generosity brings hope and joy to others.
Egg Donation FAQ
WHAT TO EXPECT DURING THE EGG DONOR PROCESS
As an egg donor, you can choose to work with single or coupled heterosexual or same-sex intended parents from the U.S. or internationally.
Once you’re matched with intended parents with whom you’re compatible and comfortable, to make the experiences as an egg donor meaningful and memorable, ASC staff will walk with you through the whole journey of donation.
There are 3 primary steps:
- Medical screening: a psychological evaluation, a physiological screening, and a genetic screening
- Legal process: you and the intended parents will review and negotiate a contract with the legal team
- Egg retrieval process: daily administration of medication and injection to promote egg growth; visits to the clinic; a quick surgery to retrieve the eggs from your body.
WHY WOULD I WANT TO BECOME AN EGG DONOR?
There are plenty of reasons to donate eggs. Maybe the most obvious is financial benefit. We compensate our egg donors well, and the prospective parents reimburse all your costs, including travel, medical expenses, and any legal fees.
The psychological benefits of becoming an egg donor are even more profound than the financial ones. Especially if you can’t raise children, egg donation allows you the knowledge and peace of mind that you’ve brought a part of yourself into the world. Egg donation also makes a difference in the life of a loving family, who might otherwise never have children.
